Snail Mail

I imagine in my head that when a Hungarian receives an email, they treat it as a message-in-a-bottle washed from a distant shore. They read it carefully, then metaphorically fold-it-away as a curiousity to be occasionally revisited from time to time by the fire-side. However, when they receive a second email, it shakes them from their slumber, they realise the first email did perhaps warrant a reply, what with having like questions and stuff in it.

So there’s today’s gripe, Hungarians don’t tend to reply until you chase your first email with a second. And yes, you might say ‘well maybe its just YOU who they don’t reply to’, but in my defence, this is my experience with friends, family, acquaintances, other contacts…even the automated telephone services. So I think its a cultural thing, and it ranckles with some inner British bit of personality that wants to march around saying ‘its just not Cricket!’.

….at least they reply with a second email. Italian’s tend to plain ignore email messages. Rude? Yes.
